English builds the passive with be + past participle, backgrounding the doer of an action the same way Tamil's -படு construction does.

Tamil's -படு auxiliary flips a verb passive by attaching directly onto it — கட்டு ('build') plus படு gives கட்டப்படு ('be built'). English achieves the identical shift by pairing a form of be with the verb's past participle instead of a suffix. Both languages background the doer of the action the same way — 'The house is built' doesn't say by whom, just like கட்டப்படுகிறது doesn't either. Add by + the doer only when it's actually relevant to mention.
