NOM vs prénom — and capital letters, a concept Devanagari doesn't have

French official forms list nom (surname/family name) before prénom (first/given name), and nom is conventionally written in capital letters to avoid confusion with the given name. This capital-letters convention has no possible equivalent for a Hindi speaker to lean on, since Devanagari has no upper/lower case distinction at all — every letter is simply itself, so 'writing something in capitals for emphasis' isn't a habit Hindi could ever have built. Treat NOM-in-capitals purely as a French visual convention to recognize on sight, not something to reason about from your own script.
