English verb-preposition pairings are already often arbitrary and don't translate word-for-word into French. Hindi has its own arbitrary set of verb-postposition pairings too — and one of them, ज़रूरत होना की ('need'), turns out to structurally mirror French's avoir besoin de almost exactly, both routing 'need' through a noun plus a genitive-like marker rather than a plain transitive verb.

penser à means to have someone/something in your thoughts; penser de is used only when asking for or giving an opinion. Hindi tends to reach for के बारे में ('about') for the mental-focus sense and a separate phrase like ख़याल है ('opinion is') for the evaluative sense — so Hindi, like French, does distinguish these two ideas, just without a clean preposition-only split. Don't mechanically translate 'about' as के बारे में in every case — check whether the sentence is about mental focus or evaluation first, in Hindi just as much as in French.

English 'need' is a plain transitive verb with no preposition. French avoir besoin is literally 'to have need of' — a noun phrase (besoin) that requires de before its object. Hindi builds 'need' the same structural way: ज़रूरत ('need', itself a noun) + है ('is'), with की (a genitive marker) attaching the thing needed — मुझे समय की ज़रूरत है, literally 'to me, of time, is need'. A Hindi speaker already has the right instinct here: 'need' isn't a simple action verb in either language, it's a noun-plus-marker construction — you're just relearning it with avoir/de instead of है/की.
s'intéresser à — a different preposition from English 'in', and from Hindi's में
Je m'intéresse à la musique.

English pairs 'interested' with 'in'; French pairs s'intéresser with à. Hindi's दिलचस्पी है ('there is interest') pairs with में ('in'), matching English's 'in' rather than French's à — so there's no reliable Hindi-to-French shortcut here either; the safest strategy is to memorize each verb with its own preposition as a single unit, since neither Hindi nor English will predict French's choice.

assister à means 'to attend' (a false friend, not 'to assist'). manquer à has a reversed subject-object structure compared to English: tu me manques literally means 'you are lacking to me' but translates as 'I miss you' — the person doing the missing becomes the indirect object in French. Hindi's मुझे तुम्हारी याद आती है ('to me, your memory comes') actually shares this same reversed logic — the person missed sits inside the sentence while मुझे marks the one doing the missing, structurally closer to French's manquer à than to English's straightforward 'I miss you'. This is a case where Hindi, not English, gives you the better instinct for French's word order.
