Use vous with elders, strangers, officials, and anyone you'd address formally in Malayalam. Use tu with close friends, family, and children. One quirk: vous is also the plural 'you all' regardless of formality, the way the formal Malayalam pronoun doubles as both 'respectful you' and 'you all'.
