Malayalam marks 'about', 'in', and 'at' with different case endings or postpositions (-നെക്കുറിച്ച്, -ഇൽ) depending on the verb's own sense, so it might seem natural to expect French to vary its preposition the same way — but French uses à for all three of these verbs regardless of what the Malayalam sense would suggest. There's no shortcut except to learn each verb's preposition as part of the verb itself.

The preposition determines which object pronoun you use
Je pense à mon travail → J'y pense. (à + thing → y) / J'ai besoin de ce livre → J'en ai besoin. (de + thing → en)
ഞാൻ എന്റെ ജോലിയെക്കുറിച്ച് ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു → ഞാൻ അതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു. / എനിക്ക് ഈ പുസ്തകം വേണം → എനിക്ക് അത് വേണം.
Once you know a verb takes à + thing, replacing that phrase with the small pronoun y is automatic (penser à → y penser); once you know a verb takes de + thing, replacing it with en is automatic (avoir besoin de → en avoir besoin). Malayalam simply reuses the pronoun അത് ('it/that') for both roles without changing shape, so learning which of French's two special pronouns matches which preposition is a genuinely new skill, not a transfer from Malayalam habits.
