When the action inside a subjunctive clause happened before the action in the main clause, French needs a past-tense subjunctive — formed exactly like every other compound tense you've built so far, with the auxiliary in the subjonctif présent, a nuance Malayalam handles without any change to the verb's mood at all.

Subjonctif passé = avoir or être conjugated in the subjonctif présent (que j'aie, que tu aies, qu'il ait... / que je sois, que tu sois...) + past participle, following the same auxiliary-choice and agreement rules as passé composé. Whether the subordinate clause needs subjonctif présent or subjonctif passé depends purely on timing relative to the main clause: use passé when the subordinate action had already happened by the time of the main-clause feeling or judgment. Malayalam expresses the same 'I'm happy that you succeeded' idea (നീ വിജയിച്ചതിൽ എനിക്ക് സന്തോഷമുണ്ട്) with an ordinary past-tense verb form and no mood change whatsoever — the timing is clear from context, not from a special verb form.
Superlatives and 'only/first/last' trigger the subjunctive
C'est le meilleur livre que j'aie jamais lu. (It's the best book I've ever read.) / C'est la seule personne qui soit venue. (She's the only person who came.)

A relative clause following a superlative (le meilleur, le pire) or a word implying uniqueness (seul, unique, premier, dernier) takes the subjunctive, because the claim is being framed as a subjective judgment rather than a verifiable fact — 'as far as I know/have experienced.' This is a purely stylistic-register trigger with no Malayalam grammatical parallel, since Malayalam doesn't mark subjectivity through verb mood at all: ഇത് ഞാൻ ഇതുവരെ വായിച്ച ഏറ്റവും നല്ല പുസ്തകമാണ് uses the exact same verb form it would use for a plain, uncontroversial fact.
Doubt and rarity triggers beyond the B2 basics
Je doute qu'il ait fini à temps. (I doubt he finished in time.) / Il est rare qu'elle soit en retard. (It's rare for her to be late.)
അവൻ സമയത്ത് തീർത്തുവോ എന്ന് എനിക്ക് സംശയമുണ്ട്. / അവൾ വൈകുന്നത് അപൂർവമാണ്.
Verbs and expressions of doubt (douter que), rarity (il est rare que), and impossibility (il est impossible que) all trigger the subjunctive because they frame the subordinate content as uncertain rather than established fact. Malayalam marks that same uncertainty lexically instead of grammatically — the doubt-marking suffix -വോ attached to the verb (തീർത്തുവോ, roughly 'did he finish, I wonder') combined with സംശയം ('doubt') does the job that French hands off entirely to the subjunctive mood, so the feeling of uncertainty is familiar even though the grammatical tool for expressing it is completely different.
