The résumé is a fixed exam and academic genre in French — condensing a text to a fraction of its length while preserving its argument — much like the സംഗ്രഹം (summary) exercise Malayalam students practice, and it comes with its own toolkit of framing phrases.

Varying these reporting verbs, rather than repeating l'auteur dit que throughout, is part of what examiners look for in a strong résumé. Malayalam summary-writing rewards the same habit: reaching for ലേഖകൻ വാദിക്കുന്നു ('the author argues'), ലേഖകൻ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടുന്നു ('the author points out'), and ലേഖകൻ അഭിപ്രായപ്പെടുന്നു ('the author opines') instead of repeating the same reporting phrase throughout a സംഗ്രഹം shows the same command of register and vocabulary variety.
