Lesson 26.57A2

Exam Writing: Responding to a Message

परीक्षा लेखन: संदेश का जवाब देना

A2 writing exams typically show a short message with a problem — a cancelled plan, a changed time — and ask you to write a reply: react, show understanding, and suggest an alternative, in that fixed order.

Grammar Comparison

व्याकरण तुलना

React, understand, suggest — a fixed three-part structure

German

Schade, dass du nicht kommen kannst! Ich verstehe, dass du krank bist. Vielleicht können wir uns nächste Woche treffen?

Hindi

अफ़सोस कि तुम नहीं आ सकते! मुझे समझ है कि तुम बीमार हो। शायद हम अगले हफ़्ते मिल सकते हैं?

An A2 reply message almost always makes the same three moves, in this order: react to the news (Schade, dass...), confirm you understand the reason (Ich verstehe, dass...), then suggest an alternative (Vielleicht können wir...). Examiners award points for this structure just as much as for any single grammar point — get the three steps in the right order, and keep each sentence itself simple.

Schade, dass... takes a subordinate clause, not an infinitive

German

Schade, dass du nicht kommen kannst. (not Schade, nicht kommen zu können)

Hindi

अफ़सोस कि तुम नहीं आ सकते।

Hindi's "अफ़सोस कि तुम नहीं आ सकते" also uses a full clause with 'कि', nothing resembling a short gerund. German almost always spells this out too, as a full dass-clause with its own subject and verb-final word order — use dass + a full clause here, rather than trying to build a short infinitive phrase.
