Beyond sein and haben, regular German verbs follow one predictable ending pattern across all six persons, and a small set of common verbs additionally change their stem vowel for du and er/sie/es — a bigger adjustment for Malayalam speakers than most, since Malayalam verbs don't change shape for person at all.

This is one of the sharpest grammar contrasts on this entire site. Malayalam is unusual even among Dravidian languages: its verbs carry no person, number, or gender marking whatsoever — ചെയ്യുന്നു ('does/do') stays identical whether the subject is ഞാൻ, നീ, or അവൻ. The pronoun alone tells you who's doing the action. German goes the opposite direction, changing the verb ending for every single person (mache/machst/macht/machen...). On top of that base pattern, a specific list of common verbs (fahren, essen, sehen, lesen, nehmen, sprechen, geben) additionally swap their stem vowel only in the du and er/sie/es forms (a→ä, e→i or ie). Since none of this exists in Malayalam, treat every German verb ending as new information to drill, not just the stem-changing ones.
