Lesson 16A1

Daily Routine & Reflexive Verbs

దినచర్య మరియు ఆత్మార్థక క్రియలు

Describing a typical day introduces się — Polish's all-purpose reflexive word. Telugu has no single word that does this job; it either builds self-directed meaning straight into the verb, or spells it out with తనను తాను only when truly needed.

się Marks Reflexive Verbs — Telugu Usually Needs No Extra Word at All

Polish

budzę się, myję się, ubieram się

Telugu

నేను లేస్తాను, నేను స్నానం చేస్తాను, నేను బట్టలు వేసుకుంటాను

Telugu describes waking up, washing up, and getting dressed with plain, ordinary verbs — లేస్తాను ('I wake up') needs no extra reflexive word tacked on, unlike Polish. Polish, by contrast, marks several everyday routine verbs as reflexive even where the action is just as self-directed in Telugu: budzić się (to wake oneself up), myć się (to wash oneself), ubierać się (to get oneself dressed). się stays exactly the same no matter who's doing the action — budzę się, budzisz się, budzi się all use the same się — so at least you only have to learn one invariant word, even though Telugu never asked for an equivalent in the first place.

się Can Sit Before or After the Verb

Polish

Chcę się obudzić wcześnie.

Telugu

నేను త్వరగా లేవాలి అనుకుంటున్నాను.

With a conjugated verb, się usually follows right after it (budzę się). But when the reflexive verb appears as an infinitive after another verb — like the modals from an earlier lesson — się often moves in front of the whole phrase instead: Chcę się obudzić wcześnie (I want to wake up early). Either position is heard in everyday speech; keeping się right next to its verb is always a safe default.
