meegaan in ('to go along with') accepts a line of reasoning while reserving a qualification. Dat is maar de vraag questions whether the premise holds at all — note maar functioning as a hedge, not as 'but'. Dat gaat mij te ver is a firm rejection while still framing it as personal. Dutch listeners calibrate these carefully, so overshooting reads as aggression.
Nuanceren: qualifying rather than refuting
Ik wil dat wel nuanceren. Dat is te kort door de bocht.

nuanceren — to add qualification — is a positively valued move in Dutch discussion, not a hedge. te kort door de bocht ('cutting the corner too tightly') is the standard idiom for an argument that skips steps. Both let you reject a conclusion's form while accepting its direction, which is often the most productive position in a Dutch debate.
Attributing and then dismantling a position
De veronderstelling dat ... gaat niet op. Dat argument snijdt geen hout.
The assumption that ... does not hold. That argument doesn't hold water.
To attack an argument's foundation, name it as a veronderstelling ('assumption') or aanname and then declare that it gaat niet op ('does not apply'). geen hout snijden ('to cut no wood') is the idiomatic 'holds no water'. Note the noun-plus-dat-clause structure — de veronderstelling dat ... — where the dat-clause is verb-final and can run long before the main verb arrives.
