second-conditional पाठात शिकलेली If I were you (प्रत्येक व्यक्तीसाठी were) ही रचना सल्ला देण्याची सर्वात सामान्य पद्धत आहे — थेट 'You should' म्हणण्यापेक्षा हे जास्त मृदू वाटते, कारण ते एका काल्पनिक परिस्थितीसारखे मांडलेले असते. मराठीतील मी जर तुझ्या जागी असतो, तर... हेही अगदी तेच काम करते — जर...असतो/करतो असे काल्पनिक रूप इथेही सल्ला मृदू करण्यासाठी पुन्हा वापरले जाते.
