Complaints & Problems

शिकायतें और समस्याएँ

Hindi's मुझे निराशा हुई कि ('I was disappointed that') never changes the following verb's form, whether the two clauses share a subject or not. French être déçu que triggers subjonctif specifically when the clauses have different subjects — a mood distinction Hindi doesn't mark at all — while être déçu de + infinitif is used when the subject stays the same.

Grammar Comparison

व्याकरण तुलना

je suis déçu(e) que + subjonctif (preview) vs. je suis déçu(e) de + infinitif — Hindi doesn't distinguish these

French

Je suis déçu que le colis soit arrivé en retard. / Je suis déçu d'avoir attendu si longtemps.

Hindi

मुझे निराशा हुई कि पार्सल देर से पहुँचा। / मुझे इतनी देर इंतज़ार करके निराशा हुई।

Hindi's मुझे निराशा हुई कि... treats both situations identically — whether the disappointed person and the delayed thing are different subjects (the parcel arrived late) or the sentence's subject stays the same throughout (I waited so long), Hindi's कि-clause never changes its verb's form either way. French, by contrast, splits these two cases: être déçu que triggers subjonctif in the que-clause specifically when the two clauses have different subjects (full subjonctif treatment comes later); when the subject stays the same across the whole sentence, French switches to de + infinitive instead (déçu d'avoir attendu, no separate subject, no subjonctif needed). For now, just recognize these two patterns in set complaint phrases rather than producing the subjonctif freely, since Hindi's uniform कि-clause won't tell you which pattern applies.
