Lesson 62.07C1

Nuanced Counter-Argumentation

सूक्ष्म प्रति-तर्क

Hindi formal argumentation makes the identical concede-then-pivot move you met earlier in this course — यह सच है कि...लेकिन ('it's true that...but') grants a real point before turning the argument around, exactly like French's certes...mais.

Grammar Comparison

व्याकरण तुलना

certes...mais: concede first, pivot second — Hindi's यह सच है कि...लेकिन follows the identical strategy

French

Certes, cette solution est coûteuse, mais elle reste la plus efficace. (Granted, this solution is costly, but it remains the most effective.)

Hindi

यह सच है कि यह समाधान महँगा है, लेकिन यह अब भी सबसे कारगर है।

certes ('granted/admittedly') opens by conceding a real point to the opposing side, which makes the mais ('but') that follows land as more persuasive and reasonable rather than dismissive. Hindi's यह सच है कि...लेकिन (which you already met in the formal-agreement lesson) does exactly this job. The rhetorical strategy itself needs no new explanation, only the French vocabulary; skipping straight to disagreement without the certes concession can come across as blunt in both languages, but French formal debate and dissertation writing prizes this concession even more consistently than everyday Hindi argument does.
