Country names in French carry grammatical gender just like any other noun, and that gender decides which preposition you use for 'in/to' that country — a preview of a fuller lesson still to come.

Most country names ending in -e are feminine and take en ('in/to'), most others are masculine and take au ('in/to', a fusion of à + le), and plural-named countries take aux (à + les). This is just a first taste — the full rules and exceptions get a dedicated lesson later — but notice already that it's the grammatical gender of the country name, not any logic about geography, that drives the choice. Malayalam place names carry no such gender at all; the same locative suffix -ൽ attaches to any country name regardless.
Nationality adjectives agree in gender
il est français / elle est française — il est indien / elle est indienne
അവൻ ഫ്രഞ്ചുകാരനാണ് / അവൾ ഫ്രഞ്ചുകാരിയാണ്
Nationality words are ordinary adjectives (lowercase in French) and change form for the person's gender, usually by adding -e for feminine (français → française) or doubling the final consonant plus -e (indien → indienne). When used as the name of the language itself, though, the masculine singular form is fixed and never changes: le français, not la française, for 'the French language'. Malayalam instead marks the person's gender in the noun itself — ഫ്രഞ്ചുകാരൻ (French person, male) versus ഫ്രഞ്ചുകാരി (French person, female) — rather than inflecting an adjective.
