Modal Verbs
മാതൃകാ ക്രിയകൾ
pouvoir (can), devoir (must), and vouloir (want) are fully irregular conjugating verbs in French. Malayalam expresses the same ideas with a fixed suffix that never changes for person.
Grammar Comparison
വ്യാകരണ താരതമ്യം
Modals conjugate irregularly for every person
pouvoir: je peux, tu peux, il peut, nous pouvons, vous pouvez, ils peuvent
കഴിയും attaches the same way regardless of who's speaking — no separate forms to learn
Unlike Malayalam, where ability and necessity are expressed with a suffix that never changes, French modal verbs conjugate just as irregularly as any other verb — pouvoir, devoir, and vouloir each have their own full set of forms to memorize per person.
Modal + bare infinitive, no linking word
je peux aller (I can go) — no 'de' or extra word between the modal and the verb
എനിക്ക് പോകാൻ കഴിയും — the main verb takes an infinitive-like ending before the ability word
French modals attach directly to the following verb's infinitive with nothing in between, much like Malayalam attaches the ability word directly after the verb's own infinitive-marked form. The word order differs (modal-then-verb in French vs. verb-then-ability-word in Malayalam), but neither language inserts an extra linking word.
