French tells time with a feminine 'heure(s)' that quietly agrees in number just like any other noun — small detail, but it trips learners who expect a fixed, invariable time-word the way Malayalam's മണി stays unchanged.

Time is always introduced with the impersonal il est ('it is'), and heure(s) — literally 'hour(s)' — pluralizes like a normal noun after 2 and up: une heure but deux heures, trois heures. Malayalam's മണി never takes a plural marker this way (മൂന്ന് മണി, not മണികൾ), so remember to add the -s once you pass 'one o'clock' in French.

Malayalam fuses the half-hour into a single word instead — മൂന്ന് ('three') and അര ('half') combine into മൂന്നര, one word for 3:30 — while :15 and :45 are built the same descriptive way French does it, counting forward with കഴിഞ്ഞ് ('past') or backward with കുറവ് ('less/to') from the next hour.
