A classic B1 writing-exam task: write an email reporting a problem (a faulty product, a booking gone wrong, a service failure) and requesting a solution. This lesson gives you the structure and phrases to build a complete, well-organized response.

Examiners score this task partly on structure, not just vocabulary — a well-organized problem email states the context and problem clearly first (using passé composé for what happened, lesson 15), then makes a specific, polite request (often conditionnel présent — je voudrais que vous..., or j'aimerais un remboursement), and closes with a formal signoff from lesson 38e. Skipping straight to the complaint without context, or ending abruptly without a closing formula, both cost points even if the French itself is grammatically correct.

This is a formal task by definition — a company or organization, not a friend — so vous is used throughout with no lapses into tu, and the tone stays polite even when reporting genuine frustration: je suis déçu(e) que... or malheureusement, ... land better than blunt, informal complaints. Consistent formality is graded alongside grammatical accuracy.
