Beyond wenn, C1 German has a small toolkit of precise conditional connectors — sofern for a strict precondition, sobald for an exact trigger moment, je nachdem for an open-ended 'it depends' — and English already distinguishes most of these ideas too, so the real challenge is register and word order, not new concepts.

sofern is a more formal, precondition-flavored cousin of wenn, common in contracts and official texts ('provided that / insofar as'); sobald pins down an exact triggering instant, more precise than a plain wenn or the temporal 'when' of als. English distinguishes these ideas too — 'provided that' versus plain 'if', 'as soon as' versus general 'when' — so this isn't a missing concept for English speakers, unlike some of the trickier grammar in this course. What is new is that, like every German subordinating conjunction, both sofern and sobald send the finite verb to the very end of their clause (vereinbart ist, ankommt) — a word-order habit English's 'provided that' and 'as soon as' never require, since English clause word order never changes after a subordinator.
je nachdem: open-ended dependency, often paired with a W-word

je nachdem introduces an indirect question — most often followed by a question word (wie, wann, wo, wer) or ob ('whether') — and translates directly onto English 'depending on how/when/whether...'. Because the clause after je nachdem is grammatically an indirect question, its finite verb still goes to the end (wie das Wetter ist, ob er kommt), exactly as it would in any other indirect question introduced by ob or a W-word.
insofern vs. insofern als: adverb vs. subordinating conjunction

insofern has two distinct jobs. Alone, it acts like the connector adverbs from an earlier lesson (dennoch, allerdings): placed at the front of a sentence it triggers verb-second inversion (Insofern hat er recht — verb before subject). Paired with als, insofern als becomes a genuine subordinating conjunction meaning 'insofar as / to the extent that', which — like every subordinator — pushes its clause's finite verb to the end (als die Zahlen stimmen). Mixing these up, or forgetting that only the als-version behaves like a normal subordinate clause, is a common C1 slip.
