Exam Writing: An Informal Letter
परीक्षा लेखन: एक अनौपचारिक पत्र
A1 writing exams often ask for a short informal letter or email to a friend — this lesson teaches the fixed opening and closing structure of any such letter, so you can focus on the middle part.
Grammar Comparison
व्याकरण तुलना
Fixed opening and closing lines — just like Hindi letters
Liebe Anna, ... / Liebe Grüße, Peter
प्रिय अन्ना, ... / शुभकामनाओं सहित, पीटर
Hindi letters also have a fixed structure ("प्रिय ...," ... "तुम्हारा अपना," / "शुभकामनाओं सहित"), and German A1 exam letters reward the same predictable structure: Liebe/Lieber + name as the opener (Liebe for a female recipient, Lieber for a male, since it's an adjective agreeing with the hidden noun "Freund/Freundin"), and a closer like Liebe Grüße or Viele Grüße before the name. Examiners are simply checking that you can produce this correct, natural frame — don't try to get creative with the structure under time pressure.
The three-part exam task: react, ask, suggest
Danke für deine Nachricht. Wie geht es dir? Ich möchte vorschlagen, dass wir uns am Samstag treffen.
तुम्हारे संदेश के लिए धन्यवाद। तुम कैसे हो? मैं सुझाव देना चाहता हूँ कि हम शनिवार को मिलें।
A1 letter exams like the Goethe-Institut's typically give three bullet points (e.g., thank the person, ask a question, make a suggestion), and points are awarded for clearly covering all three in simple sentences — rather than attempting complex grammar you haven't fully learned yet. Keep sentences short and stick to vocabulary you're confident in — accuracy on simple structures beats ambitious sentences full of mistakes.
