Lesson 10A1
Question Words
प्रश्नवाचक शब्द
German question words open the sentence just like Hindi's do, and unlike English, there's no helper 'do' to insert — a natural advantage for Hindi speakers.
Grammar Comparison
व्याकरण तुलना
Question word, then straight to the verb — like Hindi, no do-support
German
Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?)
Hindi
तुम कहाँ रहते हो?
Hindi never needs a helper verb after a question word ("तुम कहाँ रहते हो" — just "रहते हो", no word like "do"). German behaves exactly the same way: the real verb comes right after the question word, in second position: Wo wohnst du?, literally "Where live you?" English speakers have to unlearn the reflex to add "do", but for Hindi speakers this order is already natural — just remember the sequence: question word, then verb, then subject.
