Describing a Picture

చిత్రాన్ని వర్ణించడం

Speaking exams often show a photo and ask you to describe it — a fixed set of spatial phrases built on German's dative two-way prepositions lines up neatly with Telugu's single locative suffix -లో doing the same layout-describing work.

Grammar Comparison

వ్యాకరణ పోలిక

ముందుభాగంలో/వెనుకభాగంలో reuse the -లో locative postposition

German

Im Vordergrund sehe ich eine Frau. Im Hintergrund steht ein Haus. (In the foreground I see a woman. In the background stands a house.)

Telugu

ముందుభాగంలో ఒక స్త్రీని చూస్తున్నాను. వెనుకభాగంలో ఒక ఇల్లు ఉంది. (front-part-లో..., back-part-లో...)

Describing a picture is really just German's dative-marked static-location prepositions (im Vordergrund, im Hintergrund, in der Mitte) applied to a fixed set of layout words. Telugu handles the same layout vocabulary with its all-purpose locative postposition -లో, tacked directly onto ముందుభాగం ('front part'), వెనుకభాగం ('back part'), and మధ్య ('middle') — no case decision required, since -లో does location duty no matter what's happening grammatically around it. Once these anchor phrases are memorized, the rest of the description is just naming what's there and where, using vocabulary you already have.
