Daily Routine, Separable Verbs & Telling Time
दैनिक दिनचर्या, अलग होने वाली क्रियाएँ और समय
Dutch builds many everyday-routine verbs by gluing a prefix onto a base verb — and in a main clause, that prefix breaks off and jumps to the very end of the sentence, a pattern with no direct Hindi equivalent.

Separable verbs: the prefix breaks off and moves to the end
opstaan → Ik sta om zeven uur op. (I get up at seven o'clock.)
उठना → मैं सात बजे उठता हूँ।
Hindi verbs don't split into two pieces like this — 'उठना' always stays one unit. Dutch separable verbs are strict about it: the prefix (op-, aan-, uit-, mee-...) stays glued to the front in the infinitive (opstaan), but the moment the verb is conjugated in a main clause, it breaks off and lands at the very end: ik sta op, not ik opsta. In a long sentence the two pieces can end up far apart, but the prefix will always surface at the end.
Telling time: 'half' points to the hour ahead, not behind
half acht (half past seven — literally 'half eight')
साढ़े सात (हिंदी 'साढ़े' पिछले घंटे की ओर इशारा करता है)
Hindi's साढ़े सात ('half past seven') names the hour that has just passed. Dutch half acht names the hour still coming — 'half eight' means 7:30, halfway to eight, not halfway past seven. This reversal trips up a lot of learners at first, so it's worth double-checking every time until it becomes automatic.
