Prepositions of Place: in, on, at
स्थान के पूर्वसर्ग
English relation-words come before the noun, the reverse of Hindi's postposition habit — and English's three-way in/on/at split doesn't map cleanly onto Hindi's में/पर system either.

व्याकरण तुलना
After the noun, not before — and the noun itself changes shape first
in the box / on the table — the relation-word sits in front of the noun
डिब्बे में / मेज़ पर — में and पर come after the noun, and the noun shifts to its oblique form first
Hindi postpositions (में, पर, के पास) always follow the noun, the mirror image of English's in/on/at, which always come first. There's a second layer too: a masculine noun ending in आ, like डिब्बा ('box'), must shift to its oblique form डिब्बे before में can attach — डिब्बे में, never *डिब्बा में. English has no equivalent step; the noun never changes shape just because a preposition is coming. Expect to consciously flip the word order and check the noun's oblique form every time, since neither will feel automatic at first.
Hindi's two-way में/पर doesn't match English's three-way in/on/at
in the box (enclosed) / on the table (surface) / at the door (a point) — three distinct words
डिब्बे में / मेज़ पर / दरवाज़े पर — पर covers both 'on' and 'at'
Hindi mostly gets by with two core location postpositions — में for 'inside something' and पर for both 'on a surface' and 'at a specific point.' English insists on a third, separate word (at) for point-like locations that Hindi usually just folds into पर. So दरवाज़े पर can mean either 'on the door' or 'at the door' depending on context, while English forces you to pick in advance. Treat in/on/at as three items to memorize individually rather than expecting a one-to-one match with में and पर.
