Lesson 26.04A2
House & Home
House & Home
Rooms and furniture vocabulary, plus the everyday verb habiter (to live/reside), which is slightly more flexible than English 'live' about the preposition before a city.
Grammar Comparison
Grammar Comparison
habiter can take the place directly, with à optional before a city
French
J'habite Paris. or J'habite à Paris. (I live in Paris — à is optional before a city)
English
I live in Paris.
habiter can be used transitively (habiter Paris) or with à (habiter à Paris) — both are correct and common. This is slightly more flexible than English, which always needs 'in' before a city ('I live in Paris', never just 'I live Paris') — French lets you drop the preposition and treat the city name like a direct object instead.
