La 'dissertation' francesa sigue un formato rígido en tres tiempos — tesis, antítesis y síntesis — bastante distinto del comentario de texto español. Conocer esa estructura es media nota.

El modelo francés exige presentar una posición, después la contraria con la misma seriedad y, por último, una superación de ambas. Eso contrasta con la redacción argumentativa española, que suele defender una sola tesis de principio a fin. Escribir en francés defendiendo un único lado se penaliza con frecuencia, por bien argumentado que esté.
