Lesson 25A2

Imperative (Commands)

ಆಜ್ಞಾರ್ಥಕ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಪದಗಳು

German commands change form depending on who you're commanding — du, ihr, or Sie — echoing the same formality split from Lesson 1, now applied to giving instructions instead of asking questions.

Grammar Comparison

ವ್ಯಾಕರಣ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ

Command form mirrors the du/Sie split, plus a plural-du form

German

Komm! (du) / Kommt! (ihr) / Kommen Sie! (Sie)

Kannada

ಬಾ! (ನೀನು) / ಬನ್ನಿ! (ನೀವು)

Kannada already gives you two command forms tied to ನೀನು vs. ನೀವು (ಬಾ vs. ಬನ್ನಿ), matching German's du-command vs. Sie-command split almost exactly. German adds one extra piece Kannada doesn't distinguish this way: a separate ihr-command (Kommt!) for addressing multiple people informally, distinct from both the single-du command and the formal Sie command. Reuse your ನೀನು/ನೀವು instinct for du and Sie, and treat ihr as the one new slot to learn.
