Modern everyday German is full of English loanwords for technology — a rare case where Malayalam and German both borrow the same English root rather than translating it.
Grammar Comparison
വ്യാകരണ താരതമ്യം
Shared English loanwords, but German still assigns them a gender
das Handy, die E-Mail, der Laptop — all borrowed from English, but each gets a German grammatical gender
മൊബൈൽ, ഇമെയിൽ — Malayalam borrows the same English words directly, no gender assigned
German and Malayalam both freely borrow English technology vocabulary rather than coining new native words — Handy and മൊബൈൽ both trace back to English. The difference is what happens after borrowing: German forces every borrowed noun into der/die/das (das Handy, die E-Mail), continuing the same gender-assignment habit from your very first articles lesson, while Malayalam borrowed words simply slot in without any gender marking at all, since Malayalam has no grammatical gender or articles to assign in the first place.
