Prepositional Verbs

క్రియా-పూర్వసర్గ జతలు

Some German verbs pair permanently with a specific preposition whose meaning stops being literal — denken an ('to think of/about'), warten auf ('to wait for') — and Telugu has the same habit of memorized verb-plus-relator combinations, reaching for words like గురించి ('about/concerning') and కోసం ('for the sake of') as fixed idiomatic partners to particular verbs, rather than a literal case suffix chosen by rule.

Grammar Comparison

వ్యాకరణ పోలిక

Fixed verb + relator pairs, memorized as a unit

German

Ich denke an dich. (I think of you — an doesn't mean 'at' here)

Telugu

నేను నీ గురించి ఆలోచిస్తున్నాను. (గురించి, 'about/concerning', pairs idiomatically with ఆలోచించు, 'to think')

Telugu's ఆలోచించు ('to think') doesn't take a plain locative suffix like -లో for its object — it idiomatically reaches for గురించి ('about/concerning'), a postposition-like word placed after the oblique noun. German's denken works the same way: it doesn't stay with a generic preposition, it fixes on an, whose literal sense ('at/on') has drifted into something closer to 'about'. Both languages have this same layer of verb-plus-relator combinations that a learner just has to memorize one by one — treat each pairing (denken an, warten auf, sich freuen über, sich interessieren für) as a single vocabulary unit, exactly as you'd learn ఆలోచించు గురించి or ఎదురుచూడు కోసం as fixed units in Telugu, rather than assembling verb and relator freely from their separate meanings.
