શૈક્ષણિક લેખન subjunctive-mood પાઠમાં જોયેલા ઔપચારિક ક્રિયા-સ્વરૂપોને અને academic-vocabulary પાઠમાં જોયેલા શબ્દભંડોળને જોડીને એક વિશિષ્ટ, નરમ-છતાં-મક્કમ સૂર ઊભો કરે છે.

ગુજરાતીમાં પણ કોઈ દાવો ચોક્કસ સાબિત હકીકત તરીકે નહીં, પણ 'કદાચ', 'એવું જણાય છે', 'એમ કહી શકાય' જેવા નરમ શબ્દપ્રયોગોથી રજૂ કરવાની રીત જાણીતી છે, પરંતુ અંગ્રેજી શૈક્ષણિક લેખન આ નરમાશ મુખ્યત્વે could/might/suggest જેવા modal ક્રિયાપદો દ્વારા લાવે છે — ગુજરાતી વાક્યનું સીધું ભાષાંતર કરવાને બદલે, દરેક દાવાની સાથે યોગ્ય modal ક્રિયાપદ પસંદ કરવાની ટેવ પાડવી પડે છે.
