Lesson 38.1B1

Work & Career

పని మరియు వృత్తి

Talking about work brings the dative case back into contact with formal vocabulary you'll hear constantly in job interviews, offices, and everyday small talk about careers.

Grammar Comparison

వ్యాకరణ పోలిక

bei + employer takes dative, not the accusative you might expect

German

Ich arbeite bei einer Firma. (I work at a company — bei is a fixed-dative preposition)

Telugu

నేను ఒక కంపెనీలో పని చేస్తున్నాను. (company-లో, locative)

bei is one of the fixed-dative prepositions from the A2 prepositions lesson, and it's the default preposition for naming an employer — a detail easy to forget once several lessons have passed since you first memorized the dative-preposition list. Telugu's -లో locative suffix on కంపెనీలో carries the same 'located within this organization' sense, a useful anchor for remembering why bei reaches for dative here.
